Resin Driveway Cost in Ireland
What a resin bound driveway really costs in Ireland, why two quotes can be thousands apart, and where the money should be going.
Resin driveway cost in Ireland runs from about €90 to €150 per square metre laid, which puts a typical two-car driveway between €8,000 and €15,000 once groundwork is included. It is the dearest of the common finishes, and when it is done properly it earns that position.

What you pay for
What You Are Actually Paying For
A resin bound surface is washed, dried aggregate mixed with a clear resin and hand-trowelled over a solid base. The materials are only part of the bill. You are paying for the depth of the layer, the quality of the resin, the condition of the base underneath, and a crew that can lay the mix smooth before it starts to cure. Rush any one of those and the surface shows it within a couple of winters.

Prices by size
Resin Driveway Prices by Job Size
| Job | On a sound existing base | With full dig-out and new base |
|---|---|---|
| Single-car drive, about 25 m² | €2,500 to €4,000 | €4,500 to €7,000 |
| Two-car drive, about 50 m² | €4,500 to €7,500 | €8,000 to €15,000 |
| Large drive, 80 m² and up | €7,000 to €12,000 | €12,000 to €20,000 |
The two columns matter more than the rows. Laying resin over a genuinely sound concrete or tarmac base roughly halves the job, while a full dig-out with a new compacted sub-base is most of the cost on a fresh build.
Why quotes differ
Why Two Quotes Can Be Thousands Apart
- Resin quality. UV-stable resin costs more and keeps its colour, while cheap resin yellows in the sun.
- Depth of the layer. A proper drive needs 15 to 18 millimetres of depth, and a thin mix is where a low quote hides.
- The base. One contractor is pricing an overlay, the other a full rebuild, and neither quote says so plainly.
- Edging and detail. Kerbs, aluminium edge trims and drainage channels are priced by some and forgotten by others.
Ask every resin contractor the same four questions in writing and the mystery gap between quotes usually disappears.

Overlay or dig-out
Overlay or Dig-Out, Which Do You Need?
If your existing concrete or tarmac is solid, free of movement and cracks, an overlay is the honest saving. If the old surface is sinking or breaking up, resin over the top will follow it down. A good paving contractor will tell you which side of that line your drive is on before quoting, and the ones who never mention the base are the ones to be careful with.

Spend it right
Where Not to Save Money
Choose a plainer stone blend, keep the shape simple and shop the resin driveway cost around by all means. Do not save on depth, on the resin grade or on the groundwork. Those three decide whether the drive lasts fifteen years or five, and the difference between doing them right and doing them cheap is small against the price of relaying the lot.

Common questions
Resin Driveway Cost in Ireland: Your Questions Answered
Is a Resin Driveway More Expensive Than Tarmac?
Yes. Resin bound typically runs €90 to €150 per square metre against €50 to €90 for tarmac. You are paying for the smooth finish, the drainage and the low upkeep.
Is Resin Cheaper Than Block Paving?
They overlap. Good block paving runs €80 to €140 per square metre and resin €90 to €150, so on most driveways the two land within range of each other and the choice comes down to looks and upkeep rather than price.
Can I Lay a Resin Driveway Myself?
It is not a sensible DIY job. The mix cures fast, the depth has to be even, and mistakes cannot be patched invisibly. A failed DIY surface usually has to be lifted before a contractor can start again.
How Long Does a Resin Driveway Last?
A properly laid resin driveway commonly lasts fifteen years or more. The base underneath decides most of that, which is why the groundwork matters more than the brochure.
What Does Resin Driveway Upkeep Cost?
Very little. A power-wash once a year keeps the surface clear of the green film that forms in shady corners, and there are no loose stones to top up or joints to re-sand.
